Conserving the Duck River: A Plan for Collaborative Action

Many of the agencies and organizations with direct, ongoing management activities in the Duck and Buffalo watersheds participated in an updated conservation planning process led by The Nature Conservancy and sponsored by SARP during 2005. The results, reported in this document, include the aquatic system conservation targets, the threats to aquatic system target health, the conservation objectives and strategies, and a proposed time line.

Aquatic Resource Conservation in the Southeastern United States: A pilot study

The challenge for the SARP in beginning the regional planning effort has been a need for understanding more effective methods of local and regional-scale aquatic conservation planning and how to integrate these scales in a manner that facilitates the development of effective strategic partnerships. This pilot project was designed to conduct watershed-scale planning in four priority watersheds chosen by the SARP: the Altamaha River in Georgia, the Duck River in Tennessee, the Pascagoula River in Mississippi, and the Roanoke River in North Carolina. The overall intent for choosing four pilot rivers was to develop aquatic resource conservation plans for these priority systems as well as to utilize the lessons learned from these plans and other resources to inform the development of a Southeast Aquatic Habitat Plan, including recommendations on new partnerships to implement the plan. This document reports on the study.

Virginia Invasive Species Management Plan

The scope of this plan covers all invasive species, both terrestrial and aquatic, from microbe to mammals, in Virginia. The purpose of the plan is to provide a framework for state agency action to minimize economic, environmental, and human harm from invasive species by acting on the seven goals of coordination, prevention, early detection, rapid response, control, research, and education.

Oklahoma Aquatic Nuisance Species Management Plan

The Oklahoma Aquatic Nuisance Species Management Plan serves as the initial step in establishing a program to specifically address ANS issues in Oklahoma. Included in this plan are discussions of existing problems; a summary of federal, regional, and state policy; a list of non- indigenous species known to exist in Oklahoma; identification of existing priority ANS; and a discussion of regional ANS that pose a threat to Oklahoma’s aquatic ecosystems.

Missouri Aquatic Nuisance Species Management Plan

This plan will provide a framework for organizing future efforts regarding prevention, control, and mitigation of the effects of ANS in Missouri. It is designed to address ANS invasions at several different stages: identification and prevention of invasion, detection and control of spread, minimization of effects on native biota and habitats, and abatement of socio-economic and public health concerns.

Kentucky Aquatic Nuisance Species Management Plan

Kentucky Aquatic Nuisance Species Management Plan-This management plan has been created to help Kentucky deal with the myriad of problems associated with aquatic nuisance species. The aim of the plan is to describe ANS problem within Kentucky and to provide specific management actions that can mitigate current situations and prevent future problems. Mandated by federal legislation and developed by the Kentucky ANS task Force, this document will guide efforts to address ANS problems on a state, regional, and national level over the next few years.

Conserving the Pascagoula River Watershed:Conservation Action Plan

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Pascagoula River Basin Alliance have conducted conservation planning exercises in the basin since early 2000. In 2005 as part of the Southeastern Aquatic Resource Partnership (SARP) pilot rivers project, TNC led new workshops to update and refine the Conservation Action Plan to protect and restore the desirable ecological functions of this complex river. The results, reported in this document, include the aquatic system conservation targets, the threats to aquatic system target health, the conservation objectives and strategies, and a planning challenges in light of recent hurricanes.

Conserving the Roanoke River: Conservation Action Plan

The Lower Roanoke River Project (LRRP) Conservation Plan consists of five components. The first of these components is a planning document that introduces the project and summarizes its main components. The second is a Conservation Action Planning Workbook in which information about stresses, threats, strategies, and strategic success is routinely updated. Collaborating with the SARP as part of the pilot rivers project allowed the Roanoke River planning team to revise and update the written conservation plan for the project utilizing a more advanced version of the Conservation Action Planning Workbook. The resulting plan, reported in this document, include aquatic system conservation targets, selected priority threats to aquatic system target health, related conservation objectives and strategies, and suggest adaptive management measures for continued success.

Conserving the Altamaha Watershed: Conservation Action Plan

During calendar year 2005, the TNC-Georgia Conservation staff revised the Altamaha plan through a series of workshops in collaboration with the Southeast Aquatic Resource Partnership (SARP). The results, reported in this document, include eight aquatic system conservation targets, the priority threats to aquatic system target health, the conservation objectives and strategies, and suggest adaptive management measures for continued success.

State Management Plan for Aquatic Invasive Species in Louisiana

The Task Force, led by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, submits this State Management Plan for Aquatic Invasive Species in Louisiana, to (1) describe the nature and extent of this environmental problem, which afflicts Louisiana to a degree far greater than most other states, and (2) propose specific management actions to minimize negative impacts. This living document is Louisiana’s first state management plan for invasive species, and one of the first in the region.

National Fish Habitat Action Plan

The National Fish Habitat Action Plan is a national investment strategy to maximize the impact of conservation dollars on the ground. Under the Plan, federal, state, and privately-raised funds are the foundation for building regional partnerships that address the Nation’s biggest fish habitat problems. This document describes the strategies and partnerships, like SARP, that are involved.

Tennessee Aquatic Nuisance Species Management Plan

Aquatic nuisance species (ANS) pose serious problems to the ecology and economy in Tennessee. This management plan will guide Tennessee towards the development of coordinated actions to respond to such problems. This document is an adaptive plan, to be updated periodically as new techniques for prevention are identified and developed.

South Carolina Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan

The South Carolina Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan is the first comprehensive effort to assess the impacts and threats of all invasive plant and animal species in marine and freshwater systems in the state. The overarching goal of the AIS Plan is to prevent and control the introduction, spread, and impact of aquatic invasive species in South Carolina.

Final Business Plan NFWF Black Bass Keystone Initiative

SARP recently partnered with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to develop the Southeastern US Native Black Bass Keystone Initiative. Through the initiative, partners will implement a 10-year plan developed in collaboration with more than 20 conservation organizations in the region that focuses on restoring healthy, genetically-secure, self-sustaining populations of endemic black bass species within their native ranges. The plan identifies more than $31M in specific conservation actions. The initial pilot project supported by the initiative will begin in summer 2010, and will focus on restoration of the State Fish of Texas, the Guadalupe bass.
